The Sound Stone is a steel tongue drum — a real instrument, small enough for small hands, tuned so that every note it makes is beautiful. Tap any tongue and something rings out. Tap two together and they harmonise. There is no wrong note. There is no wrong way to begin.

The Sound Stone kit includes the drum, two mallets, and the SAGA play booklet — a full tutorial with nine pieces to learn, including three original compositions written exclusively for this instrument. The first sounds beautiful. So does the last.

Safety & Care Notes

The Sound Stone is constructed from solid steel with a non-toxic painted finish and fully rounded edges. No sharp surfaces. No small detachable parts under normal use.

Adult supervision is recommended for children under five years. The mallets are not suitable for children under three years.

To clean, wipe with a dry cloth. Do not use water, cleaning products, or abrasive materials on the steel surface.

Store away from direct sunlight and sources of sustained heat. Prolonged heat exposure may affect tuning over time. The drum does not require re-tuning under normal use and storage conditions.

There is a reason certain sounds make you stop.

Steel tongue drums produce what researchers call resonant tones — notes that sustain longer than most instruments their size, with natural overtones that layer in the air after the tap. This is not a quality of the player. It is a quality of the steel and the way each tongue is cut. The Sound Stone will ring for several seconds after a single tap. That ring is doing something.

Studies in music therapy and child development consistently show that percussion play — particularly slow, self-directed percussion — activates the parts of the brain associated with attention and emotional settling. Children who play instruments with sustained resonance tend to use them instinctively as self-regulation tools. They reach for them when overwhelmed. They slow down when they play.

The Sound Stone is tuned to C major pentatonic — a scale used across musical traditions from West Africa to East Asia to the Arabian Peninsula for thousands of years. Every culture that has encountered this scale has found it to be resolved, restful, and harmonically complete. This is not a coincidence. It is an acoustic fact.

The three original SAGA compositions in the play booklet were written specifically for this tuning — the breathing pattern, the lullaby, and the mindful tone. None of them appear in any other product. They were composed to be played slowly, to fill a room, and to be returned to.

How to Play

Pick up the Sound Stone. Find a number on the drum — any number. Tap it with a mallet or your fingertip and let it ring.

Open the SAGA play booklet. Find your first piece — Hot Cross Buns, three notes, first page. Follow the numbers left to right. Tap each one in order. That is a melody.

Work through the booklet at any pace. The pieces build gradually — from three-note patterns for beginners to the original SAGA mindful tone, which is played very slowly and sounds unlike anything else in this kit.

The Sound Stone plays alone. It also plays beautifully alongside another person. No rules govern how two people share it.
